    SPSS List Serve

This SPSS list serve is open to anyone interested in SPSS software products. This list serve deals with computer, statistical and many other operational issues related to SPSS products.

How to Subscribe or Unsubscribe to a List Serve

    Subscribing to a list:

    1. Send an e-mail message to the list serve's addess (listed above). This is an automated system, so you do not need to put anything in the "subject" section of the e-mail header.
    2. In the body of the e-mail, type

      subscribe <listname> <your first and last name>

where <listname> and <your first and last name> should be the name of the list you are subscribing to (such as SPSSX-L), and your real name, respectively. You should not enter your userid (e-mail name) or your address. Also, the brackets are just to indicate that you need to provide data in a particular field (in this case, the list name and your full name). You do not need to type the brackets when you actually send the email message to listproc. For example, if the user John Doe (jdoe@spss.com) wanted to subscribe to the SPSSX-L list, he would send an email message to listproc@spss.com, and in the body of the message he would put the text:

      subscribe SPSSX-L John Doe

    3. On the next line, type "--". That is, two dashes with no space in between. This tells the list server to ignore anything else in the message, such as an automatic e-mail signature.
    4. Send the message. That's all there is to it! After some short period of time, you should receive a message stating that you have been successfully added to the list server.
    5. Follow the instructions in the confirmation note to change your password.

    Unsubscribing from a list:

Follow the same steps as above, except type unsubscribe in step 2.

To unsubscribe from the SPSSX-L list serve, type SIGNOFF SPSSX-L
